PAN’S LABYRINTH REVIEW

July 30, 2007

Saw this movie Pan’s labyrinth a few days ago. And uff what graphics dude!!. Loved them from the trailer. The movie was in Spanish though. Its fantasy , fairy tale thing, set in civil war spain. It shows how one army general wants his name to live, so he marries a pregnant woman, whom he believes will bear him a boy to carry his name forward. The sister of the boy is the main character in the movie who reads a lot of fairy tales. As the story unfolds you see she falls into her very own fairy tale and well fairies and fauns that smell like earth. Gave me the creeps at times.

The proverbial three tasks for her to fulfill her destiny and her weakness during tasks. The all-thru-the movie doubt of the faun’s true intentions. The hazards and everything. All till the very end where you see for a moment a glimpse of reality, what others see, and as the movie ends you wonder if what she saw was real or just her imagination away from the real world . was she mad in her own way and sought solitude in her own fairy tale or is the fairy tale true and she really is a princess whose soul gains entrance into a world where there are no lies and no broken promises. You see the whole movie in a flashback and wonder why didn’t it occur to you that it couldn’t all be real. Seems a great master piece from that angel. Though I wished there would have been more to the story . it would have wonderfully descended into something so much more. But with what the audience is left, the pondering, I d say the movie fills its purpose.

Simply awesome movie. A must watch for everyone.
